Testing 1, 2, 3: AViiQ portable laptop stand

The claim: "The AViiQ laptop stand was created to solve a common and recurring problem: Laptop stands were too bulky for travelers on-the-go. The AViiQ laptop compresses down to a 1/4 -inch thin plate, making it easy to stash and football jerseys dash."

The cost: $79.95 at www.aviiq.com

The verdict: From a distance, the AViiQ portable laptop stand looks like a fragile sheet of aluminum foil more suitable for leftovers than bracing an expensive laptop full of important information. Hands on, however, it provides a strong, secure platform for a laptop measuring up to 17 inches. The stand folds out and locks into place using a simple design that elevates a laptop for better cooling and tilts a computer to a 12-degree viewing angle. The AViiQ is very thin and weighs only 5.5 ounces. It's made of Detroit Lions jersey a flexible material called Hylite, which is a composite of aluminum sheets bonded to a polypropylene core. The AViiQ's feet are made of a thermoplastic elastomer called Dynaflex, which feels rubbery and stops the stand and the laptop resting on it from sliding. When folded and stashed Green Bay Packers jersey inside its included carrying bag, the AViiQ takes up little space inside a laptop case.
