A-ROD LOOMS AS YANKS GO BOOM! THAMES' BLAST DELIVERS EIGHTH STRAIGHT, JAVY UNHAPPY WITH HOOK

Marcus Thames' latest clutch homer and another sensational effort from the bullpen resulted in an uplifting Yankees' victory.
Yet, at a crucial point of nfl jerseys
yesterday's 7-5 Yankees win over the Blue Jays in front of 47,478 at Yankee Stadium, Javier Vazquez wasn't pleased.
With two outs, runners on the corners and the Yankees ahead by two runs in the fifth, Joe Girardi emerged from the dugout. With his left hand touching the right arm, Dustin Moseley was being summoned from the bullpen.
Vazquez's reaction was to put his arms in the air. Clearly, the veteran right-hander wasn't ready to be removed from the game.
"I don't mind guys being competitive and wanting to stay in games," Girardi said after his club extended its season-high winning streak to eight games and hiked the best record in baseball to 86-50. "I would have a problem if Javy was calling me out to take him out. That, I would have an issue with. If I feel a need to talk to someone I will talk to them, but that will be something that stays in our clubhouse."
Vazquez, who gave up five runs, four hits and walked four in 42/3 innings, didn't ignore his feelings.
"I'm not the manager. Sometimes as a player you don't agree with the decision the manager makes, but he's still the manager and you have to respect it," said Vazquez, who according to Girardi remains in the rotation. He was making his first start since Aug. 21, having pitched very well in long relief in his Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
last two outings.
"I really don't remember what I did," Vazquezs said of his reaction on the mound. "But if I did I guess it was in surprise."
Dustin Moseley, whom Vazquez replaced in the rotation, allowed the two runners he inherited to score in the fifth to tie the score, 5-5.
That's the way it stayed until the seventh when Robinson Cano (2-for-4, two RBIs) singled with two outs and Thames killed a 0-1 pitch from right-hander Jason Frasor.
"I was just trying to hit the ball hard," said Thames, whose drive easily cleared the left-field wall. "I have always said that if I hit a two-run homer when we are losing 10-1, it doesn't mean anything. I would rather hit them with something on the line."
Thames has homered in six of his last 10 games and is hitting .314 (11-for-35) with seven homers and 13 RBIs in that stretch.
After Moseley allowed the inherited runners to score, Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, Kerry Wood and Mariano Rivera (29th save in 31 chances) shut the Blue Jays out across the final 41/3 innings.
Vazquez retired the Blue Jays in order in the first, gave up three runs (two homers) in the second, worked around a leadoff walk in the third and a one-out single in the fourth.
With two outs and the bases empty in the fifth and the Yankees ahead, 5-3, Vazquez walked Jose Bautista and gave up a single to Vernon Wells.
That prompted Girardi, who did the same thing to neophyte Ivan Nova Friday, to hook Vazquez one out away from qualifying for a win.
"It's tough because players want to win, but I thought it was time," Girardi said.
Did Vazquez take it as a sign that his manager's confidence in him had Minnesota Vikings jersey
slipped?
"I don't know. I really don't want to get into it because I know I've got nothing to win here," Vazquez said. "Sometimes as a player you don't agree with your manager's decision but he's still the manager, still the boss.
